Aysha...split grip vs. forearm grip vs. elbow grip

It's so weird that when I caterpiller up high and position my top arm in elbow grip, it feels gummy and unstable until I quickly take legs off and let my body be as far from the pole as possible, then suddenly it goes from gummy useless elbow grip to the main support of my straight edge!! Sorry bad explaination but I am always eager to get away and get my legs off cos then my core takes hold and I am can stay up for a good amount of time haha
I really need to start getting on here more often. This is a great thread. Answering many of my own questions, and particularly I'm grateful for the tips for tall chicks. I'm 5'11, 125 lb. and I've struggled a lot to get so many tricks that come easy to others. I've just never gotten such helpful instruction for my body type like what is here. I guess there's hope!! :-)
I love hearing about everyones experience with this... What I've decided is that I'm just odd because I like split grip. 🙂 That's okay, I've always been a little odd. 🙊 I'm also going to try the elbow grip soon I think because so many people do prefer that to both forearm and split. Maybe I'll just scratch the forearm grip for now...I would assume that any move you can do in it you can do with either elbow or split anyway, if not, someone please correct me. So for now I'm going to keep working on split grip and since "mostly" everyone else finds it more difficult, I can be a little show off. hehe 🥂
I love split grip too! In terms of enjoying the arm position, I just wish it liked me when both legs are airborne, LOL. Forearm grip I was determined to move away from and into Elbow Grip because I found it boring lol... Elbow grip looks more adventurous lol
I'm an elbow gripper. Forearm grip feels awkward, and I've always found myself gravitating towards elbow grip from the minute I attempted my first aysha. It's gotten a lot better since then lol. Split grip is evading me, my balance is horrid trying to straddle out in a split grip from the pole (yet I can cartwheel mount into one). Working on the extended aysha with the elbow grip currently :)
This thread came at a perfect time for me. I can caterpiller up to the side but the forearm grip is hurting my wrist...I can't get my legs off the pole at all...my Elbow grip is non-existant, I can't find the the proper spot. However, I can do a split grip and it feels really secure...sometimes I'm leaning when my legs are coming off the pole and sometimes not. I'm assuming it will just take practice to have an Aysha consistantly. So, why is my wrist hurting? I have a gun grip..I turn my forearm inwards, the pole is on my bicep and resting on my armpit...but alas, I have to pull out and come down off the pole. Advice would be gratefully accepted! 🐷

I prefer elbow grip. I can use forearm grip in a straight edge but I havent become comfortable with letting my hips fall away from the pole as you do in an aysha. I prefer the look of my hips being far out from the pole and my knees facing the floor so my legs look flat. This was a huge challenge for me at first until I realized that the farther out my hips went, the more secure I felt in my elbow grip. This is because when your hips come they pull your elbow grip into the pole. It creates a nice triangle which is the strongest stape of them all as opposed to keeping your hips close to the pole which leaves you dealing with only the straight downward pull of gravity. my split grip uses a different bottom arm than my elbow grip. Since i got comfortable with my left arm being down and I built up those muscles, switching them for split grip has caused me a lot of frustration. In return I have found true grip to be ideal because my left arm is down just as in my elbow grip. I have choosin to avoid twisted grip all together cause there are so many safe alternatives. I have an old wrist injury that helped get me to that conclusion.
My preference is still Elbow Grip, followed by Split Grip, Twisted Grip and True grip (though I'm hoping to swap the order of the last 2). I occasionaly try to work on the forearm grip, but it always feels awkward to me. I do sometimes use the Forearm Grip with my Caterpillar climb though.
Can anyone come down off the pole into a true grip aysha? Is there some trick to it? I got the elbow grip aysha first, then after a lot of work, a twisted split grip. I still can't do a regular split grip, but I'm working on it. I want to learn true grip, but so far I've learned ayshas by coming off the pole rather than handspringing up, and that seems to be the only way people do true grip.
I can do split grip and forerm grip, elbow grip scares me! With the forarm grip i used to be really close to pole, now i can move my hips away more. As far as spit grip goes, I am still plying around with balance and tend to rest my leg on my arm, but bringing the legs lower helps it feel more secure and yes looking up too!

@ Elektra, I just started working on the True Grip Aysha...you can see how I do it in my video here: https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/4f707559-a96c-466d-93e0-0cfe0ac37250 at 0:35 My problem when I first started working on this way back was in letting the arm closest to my legs straighten out and that would pull my hand off the pole. If you keep that arm bent, you use your bicep to pull straight instead of at an angle and it doesn't twist the hand. Got my first solid True Grip Aysha in this video, many thanks to Legend and her help.
