I developed an interest in pole dance and fitness about 12 years ago. At the time I had no idea that it was the type of hobby that would warrant online communities, classes, and forums. I trained on my own for about 8 years before I found out that there were actually studios to learn at. Since I went for so many years not doing things the "proper" way...my moves and dismounts can be a bit...errr....different (and dangerous!) at times. I tried out a bunch of local studios in my area but couldn't quite find one as fitness driven as I would have liked. My search eventually led me to Awakenings Studio in King of Prussia and Manayunk where I was delighted to find a format that really challenged me and helped me with my strength and flexibility. After a short while taking classes as a student, I was asked to train as an instructor. After working for nearly two years getting my pole certification and fitness requirements (not to mention taking certs and workshops in aerial rigging and safety) I finally feel confident enough to share my pole and aerial knowledge with students. Over the past two years, I have developed a successful aerials program here at Awakenings. Aside from pole fitness, we have an entire team of instructors trained to teach aerial silks, aerial hammock, aerial hoop, and trapeze. We hold aerials classes everyday...many which are formatted to help everyday women get into shape and condition their bodies. I travel all around the East Coast teaching aerial dance workshops at other studios. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in bringing an aerials workshop to your studio. :) Aside from pole fitness, I am also into knitting, Magic: The Gathering, Astronomy (I have a 5" refractor telescope), comic books, cosplay, the SCA, and playing Quidditch. (Yup, Quidditch.) http://www.awakeningspolefitness.com http://www.facebook.com/squeaksuicide
