Sandpaper (gasp) new brass pole?

Love my new brass pole....the smooth spin, the smaller diameter, but it is slick! I have tried everything imaginable and am about ready to take sandpaper to this pole like I did my chrome. Anyone sand down their brass? If I have to I will get it powder coated, but heck I paid extra for the brass and it is so pretty so just don't want to resort to that. Maybe a light sand job? So looking all all options first. Advice appreciated.....

AG, what type of gloves? I did buy the yellow dish gloves and they too just "slid on down".

my mighty grip gloves DO NOT work on my brass... they are perfect when i tried them on chrome though.... im about to say screw it and buy a powder coat and a chrome pole and just have all three and use whatever one that works best on that day... when i move homes of course
